Connect ChatGPT
Add CodeBook to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, sign in with Bookbag, and see your factory board and stories as cards in the chat. Exactly what has been checked, and what ChatGPT can't do.
ChatGPT connects to the same connector as Claude: https://app.codebook.work/mcp, signed in with your Bookbag account. In ChatGPT you can see your factory's board and follow your stories, drawn as cards in the chat. Starting a story and deciding your stations use the same CodeBook tools as Claude, but they have not been checked in ChatGPT yet. Stories you start from ChatGPT always have their agent stations run in CodeBook. Run here needs Claude Code, because it works in a checkout on your computer.
Can your account add it?
OpenAI decides who can add a custom MCP server in ChatGPT. It depends on your plan, and in a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, your admin's settings and policies apply. If Add custom MCP server doesn't appear in the steps below, your account can't add one: ask your workspace admin, or see OpenAI's Connecting custom MCP servers in ChatGPT.
Sign in to app.codebook.work once before you start. A Bookbag account that has never opened CodeBook has no factories to show.
Add CodeBook
On ChatGPT on the web:
- Open Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins), select +, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter a name, CodeBook, and, if you like, a description.
- Under Connection, enter the server URL:
https://app.codebook.work/mcp. - For authentication, choose OAuth.
- Read ChatGPT's warning about custom servers, then select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin.
- Sign in with your Bookbag account, and allow CodeBook's permissions when Bookbag asks.
- Install the plugin if ChatGPT asks you to. Then you can use it in a conversation.
ChatGPT has no separate "developer mode" switch for this any more: a custom MCP server is added from Plugins. OpenAI's steps are in Connect and test your plugin. Menu names can change, so follow OpenAI's page if it differs from this one.
Use it
Mention @CodeBook in a message and ask. For example: "@CodeBook show me the board of the Payments factory", or "@CodeBook how is story #57 going?".
- The board and a story are drawn as cards. The factory board shows its stations and every story, with the ones waiting for you first. A story card shows each station as done, now or next.
- Clicking a story's row on the board sends a message asking how that story is going, and ChatGPT answers with the story's card.
- Start a story by saying what it should make and in which factory. The agent stations run in CodeBook, as they do for a story started on the website. Not checked in ChatGPT yet.
- Approve or send back a station that waits for you by saying so in the chat. Ask what approving does first: a factory may merge the story's pull request when its station is approved. Not checked in ChatGPT yet.
The connector can do exactly what you can do on app.codebook.work, never more. Every move it makes is recorded on the card in your name, with the app you used.
What has been checked
On 1 November 2026 we added CodeBook to ChatGPT using the steps above and signed in with Bookbag. Then we checked:
- a story card;
- the factory board card;
- clicking a story's row, which sent the follow-up message and drew that story's card.
Not yet checked in ChatGPT:
- Approve, Send back and Start from the chat or from a card;
- the cards with ChatGPT's content security policy enforcement switched on. The account we checked had it off.
The tools behind them are the same ones Claude uses, but until a check in ChatGPT passes, we don't claim it here.
What ChatGPT can't do
- Run here. The stations of a story you start from ChatGPT run in CodeBook, on the factory's budget. To have your own Claude plan work them in your checkout, use Claude Code.
- Ask you by itself. ChatGPT doesn't watch your stories. Ask how a story is going, and the card shows the station that waits for you.
- The Factory pane and
/factory. These come with the Claude Code plugin.
If something is off
- A new CodeBook feature doesn't show up: open CodeBook under Plugins, select Refresh, and start a new conversation.
