Workflows that hand off to each other

A station can route a card to another workflow in the same factory: move it there, send a linked copy and carry on, or send it and wait for it to come back. Every handoff carries a typed brief, and agents can only hand off along routes you declared.

Real work crosses lines. QA finds a security problem in a feature; that is not a QA failure and it is not the feature engineer’s next task — it belongs to the people and agents who do security. In CodeBook the QA station routes the card to the Security workflow, the Security workflow handles it, and the card returns to Development.

There are three ways to cross. Move: the card leaves this workflow and lives in the other one. Send: a linked copy goes to the other workflow and this card carries on. Send and wait: a linked copy goes, and this card holds where it is until the other workflow sends it back.

A handoff is not a bare move. It carries a typed brief — the goal, the evidence, the open questions — so the receiving workflow’s first worker starts from what is known rather than from a title. And the routes are yours: an agent can only hand a card to a workflow its station has a declared route to, and loops between workflows are bounded the same way loops between stations are.

Build the factory. Pick the workers. Define how work moves. CodeBook runs it.
